I have experienced both bulk change and lean change. Bulk change does cause a lot of resistance from both veteran and new staff. It is my hope, as a building based administrator, that my improvement plans will implement lean change and receive greater teacher buy-in.

Nadia Luenig

Assistant Principal

I have only experienced bulk change because unfortunately teachers do not want to volunteer to change their practice. Unfortunately the changes that have needed to be made have had to be mandated in order for the changes to occur.

Jill Talewsky

Supervisor of Mathematics

Both changes could just make teachers overwhelmed and cause anxiety and unnecessary stress and can cause teachers to just leave.

Dr. Hipolita Hernandez-Sicignano

Principal

My experience has been primarily with bulk change.

Joe Santicerma

Principal

I, as first year principal have initiated lean change. And this was particularly around the grading policy and even more specific around no zero policy. Started my first year by just introducing the idea of no zero policy, having the staff engage in some text and then initially having some people jump on and buy in the first year and then the second year there were more people and then by the third year was the school wide implementation of that no zero component of the grading policy.

Khalid Oluewu

Principal/Lead Learner

I have mostly been a part of bulk changes but in my limited experience with lean changes it seems to make the transition easier as long as the administration has the stomach for follow through.

Jeff Salmeri

ELA Supervisor

I have been apart of both lean and bulk change. In my current board my director really only believes in bulk change. He will allow me lean change in my areas that are not education related - such as housing. I personally wish we could have some options of lean change since I have so many 1st and 2nd year teachers. There have been times we have had to implement a new program and these teachers are just starting out and I feel it can be overwhelming for them to be trained in one reading program and then having to switch up to another one.I also have found that when we do a bulk change it is hard to have everyone on the same page. There is lots of grumbling.

Lee Barrios

Principal

We had a bulk change at our school many years ago which led to a lot of great teachers leaving the school as they did not agree with the change. I wonder if it had been taken with a lean change approach if there would have been a different outcome.

Angie Rasmussen

School Director

In my role, I have been a part of both bulk and lean change. Changing the school calendar, report card gradng, dress code, policy are all lean change. Bulk change in terms of district leadership has been the biggest so far. It is difficult at times navigating with new administration. Everyone wants to have a say or their time to give opinions and suggestions. It is time consuming and withlittle outcome or action items.

Beth Fischer

Assistant Superintendent

I have experienced bulk change and it has always been the same some staff are on board and others resist.
