We are implementing a new curriculum K-8. Initially I participated in training with the teachers and learned how the program worked in order to better support them later. Now I am in the process of observing lessons and facilitating professional development so that teachers can continue to improve their practice.

Supervisor of Mathematics
This is a tough question as I've only been in this building for 3 years. Half of that has been through the pandemic. I can see how practices have gone by the wayside because there have been so many student issues to deal with every day. I'm planning for next school year. We need to get back on track. I am starting the planning for our instructional framework. I will be heavily involved in this process. I am taking notes on what I'm seeing in the classroom so they can be a part of the training. We will have many new staff members next year as well. So this training will be direct instruction and a great review for veteran teachers.

This year we are focusing on Teacher Clarity within PLCs and as a school. This year is a training year and during training it is important that teachers and admin see that this is not “something new” but it is work that has already happening in their PLCs but with a clearer focus. As admin it will be important to continue to learn with the teachers and to allow time for them to continue to incorporate the work during their PLC time.

Principal
We are implementing guided reading within our reading instruction. There seems to be a lot of push back. However, I am involved in observing lessons to see how I can provide them with support.

Principal
The graph showing the teacher/leader involvement was spot on. We had new literacy interventions brought in 3 years ago and then another one at the end of our last year (training to commence when we return). I find it challenging to gauge the level of implementation in the classroom since I have not used the programs. The teachers were excited for the original literacy interventions and the literacy coach. Now I feel they are overwhelmed with a new program coming. My level of involvement is truly only for the preplanning and beginning of the implementation. Then I am on to school and district level projects.
Lee Barrios
Principal
The implementation graph really hit home with me. I spend a lot of time at the beginning talking to people and working with small groups to get things into our building, and then I move to the next thing while my teachers are still trying to process and implement the last new thing. I need to make sure my admin staff is supporting teachers throughout the process of everything we implement.

School Director
Our teachers are working on Common Assessments and by tiering and implementing these assessments in gradual way (two year process) it enables the teachers to see the big picture without getting overwhelmed.
Jeff Salmeri
ELA Supervisor
We have adopted a new Math program that has an online component. The teachers have been struggling with incorporating the online aspect with the regular workbook. Some are choosing to not use that part at all. The leadership team has more involved and reached out to the company to provide additional training for our teachers. We have also become really hands-on until the teachers feel more comfortable with the online component.
