We are moving from one coach/mentor this year to five teacher mentors. I am excited to see how they will work with teachers, not on their grade level team, to support them in their learning.

Identifying areas for individual teachers that require improvement and then ensuring proper training, professional development, and coaching in these areas.

I'm so excited to have an instructional coach next school year. Since that is my background, I plan to work closely with her to support teachers. Coaching cycles will be imperative for our new teachers next year. Between the 2 of us, we can supply targeted professional development as well. As assistant principal I can follow up with conversations with teachers to help with the watering and landscaping of their instruction.

Book studies, targeted professional development, talking about my own experience, and conversations with different members of their team.

Assistant Principal

Targeted intervention is the best practice. Some teachers may need more hands-on training than others. Teachers can attend need based conferences , trainings(special Ed , ELD, interventions, class management , etc ). They can be given book studies, self-paced online training. Our intern/new teachers usually have a coach that is mandatory to have their credential programs. Veteran teachers can be assigned mentors , given opportunities for peer coaching , observing each other.

Creating PLCs, having teachers observe master teachers, bringing teachers into admin committees, etc.

Jeff Salmeri

ELA Supervisor

I am nervous for my coming year. We had a wonderful instructional coach for 3 years and now we are back to admin providing the support. I think one way that I could support our teachers is for them to do PD. Our board has usually only paid for our yearly conference in March where we get 3 days of PD. The issue is that it is usually a few cultural classes and then PD aimed at our programming. There is not usually any PD on things such as interventions, special education, or classroom management - which is usually where our teachers need additional support. I was told in June that we could start using our PD budget for teachers to take PD of their choosing (with my approval). This would be a step in the right direction.

Principal

I sometimes go into classrooms and model strategies and work with teachers during their classes. Sometimes explaining something doesn't do it justice, so I find going in and demonstrating what I want to see if much more effective.

Supervisor of Mathematics
